A Personal Reflection From Jason
Thinking back to the heart-pounding excitement of the previous EUIC events, this year’s show is set to be unprecedented in every sense of the word. For a moment, just picture the hustle and bustle in London, amidst the background of historic architecture, as thousands of Pokémon enthusiasts gather together with the same purpose in mind.
With London as the host city for the Grand Finals, I am personally filled with anticipation for what is to come. I see it — the camaraderie, the competition, and the sheer passion for what many refer to as “a simple card game”. But we both know there’s a whole lot more to it than that.
On a personal note, I’m tremendously excited about the livestream available on YouTube. This accessibility promises no fan will miss out on the action, wherever they may be in the globe. I have fond memories of tuning in with fellow Pokémon enthusiasts — we found common ground in ZoeTwoDots, and other high-caliber competitors that grace us with their talents every year.
I’m also particularly intrigued by the prospects of Marco Silvas Iron Hands for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. There’s this certain energy around new players that fascinate me, the raw talent that has so much potential for truly breath-taking moments under the global spotlight.
I want to acknowledge the thoughtful inclusion of the welcome kit for the competitors. This kit, not just an amalgamation of practical goodies like the cap, playmat, card sleeves, and the deck box — is in fact a symbol. A symbol of being part of something monumental. It’s these little details that make the whole experience more inclusive and personal.
While side events and spectator activities offer an extra layer of enjoyment, undoubtedly, the main heart of the EUIC remains in those unpredictable, dramatic moments of the battles. That moment of triumph or defeat, where every second even in the arena holds a fragment of surprise.
Whenever the event dates are announced — this year it’s Friday, April 5th to Sunday, April 7th — I can feel the anticipation build, not just in me, but in all of us who share this mutual love and respect for the game. And every year, it brings so much joy to see this community thrive and grow.
To conclude, EUIC 2024 is not just an event, it’s a celebration of enthusiasts, competitors, and fans alike — a testament to the heart and spirit of every player, every spectator, carving out their path in the Pokémon world. Here’s to an unforgettable event!
